Yupo Watercolor

Instructor: Barbara Raymond

– view bio

Yupo is a non-porous, synthetic paper that is completely waterproof. The super smooth surface of this unique paper allows you to use watercolors to build up nuances and patterns that would normally be impossible to achieve on traditional watercolor and drawing paper. Because of the waterproof properties of the paper, paint dries very slowly and can therefore be wiped clean during the painting process if the artist so desires to start fresh. Additionally, the paper allows you to build up layers of paint similar to that of an oil painting.

Learn how to use acrylics and paint a Florida-themed picture using one of the instructor’s many local photographs as a guide. Examples include a sunset, a palm tree, a local flower, a turtle, a night sky and more. No two paintings end up alike! The instructor guides students in their own personal style and development. Learn different techniques such as acrylic washes, transparent vs opaque applications, adding textures to surface design, finishing techniques and apply wire hanging to your paintings once complete. Students are encouraged to bring their own materials such as paints, brushes, gloves, rags or paper towels and a palette or plate. Canvases can be purchased on-site. And be sure to wear old clothing as the fun can get messy!

Students are encouraged to sign up for a set of 4 classes to start in order to learn the process and make a couple of paintings from start finish.  Cost for 4 classes in one month is $150.  Classes are 3 hours in length.  Bring a friend along for an individual class for $45!

Acrylic Pour Painting

Instructor: Linda Thompson, CPF

– view bio

Acrylic pour painting is a fascinating fluid painting technique. It uses acrylic paint, with various additives, which affect its consistency and finishes. The liquefied paint is poured onto a medium, then distributed tilting the medium and allowing gravity to pull the paint in different directions. Depending on the choice of paint, the additives, the medium and the artist, different effects are created and no two pieces are the same!
